Rev Dr Rob Marshall, Priest at St John the Evangelist, Welwyn Garden City

The AB of C has resigned over the cover up over the abuse by John Smyth. This was the right thing to do as Jesus said to protect the little children; a passage that has now been uncovered by C of E biblical scholars and which has totally changed our thinking about the subject.

We will now enter a period of deep thought and reflection, as we always do in circumstances like this, because it always works.

As this is Thought for the Day, the subject is now closed and you may not discuss this further.

Sky over Southend

The clouds did actually part last night. Just as the moon set, at about 1.30 am, there was a glorious starry show. Unfortunately, it didn’t last. Within minutes, the clouds rolled in again. I did manage to get one decent snap out of it though. This is taken with a fisheye lens (second hand, of course).

I’ve upped the contrast a bit. The glow on the horizon is a mix of light pollution and the light from the moon that is setting to the right of this picture.

Fearsomely Reverend James Jones, ex-Lord Bishop of Liverpool and Bishop of Prisons

It’s Armistice Day, when we remember those who sacrificed all for the sake of duty.

Today, people are more concerned with their rights than their duties, which is why everything has become so rubbish. They should spend a bit more time doing their duty. Because you can’t have both. Rights and duties are mutually exclusive.
