Beattie Tina Beattie, Professor of being Catholic

And in the Big News today from a Faith Perspective, the Shipping Forecast is 100 years old. It’s so exciting. The Monopoly board is great too.

This is exactly like being a Catholic somehow.

Isn’t the Pope just fantastic!

Fr Samuel Burke, Dominican Friar, Royal Navy Chaplain

In the new year, are you a new me?

Well, in reality, you can’t get to the Invisible Magic Afterlife all by yourself. It’s a team effort, like being on a ship. We have to work as a community. And that’s what the church is, and it’s the only one. This was invented by St Paul.

So don’t just adopt a new year’s resolution for yourself. Do what Christians do best, impose it unwillingly on everyone else as well.

Rev Dr Rob Marshall, Priest at St John the Evangelist, Welwyn Garden City

Today’s guest editor chose a prayer for me. This is brilliant. Normally I wouldn’t mention the Invisible Magic Friend, Christianity, the Apostles, a theologian, St Paul, and how we’re the only people with courage, perseverance and hope. But today I can quite legitimately do it. So take that all you people who criticise the Thought For the Day slot for having nothing to do with the news.
