Rev Lucy Winkett, Rector of St James Piccadilly, handy for Fortnum and Mason

Reading books is declining alarmingly among the young. Concentration and attentiveness are becoming rare disciplines.

Christians invented concentration and attentiveness. It’s what makes us so wise. Without concentration and attentiveness we could be taken in by glib slogans like “Jesus died for our sins.” We might believe any old rubbish.

Now actually Rev Jayne Manfredi

And in the Big News today from a Faith Perspective, isn’t John Lennon’s song “Imagine” just rubbish. Who’d want to imagine a world with no religion? A famous theologian agreed with me, so I must be right.

If you want to go around imagining things, you want some proper imagination. The Big Book of Magic Stuff is just full of proper imagination. You can imagine a heaven, and a hell for all you wicked sinners to suffer in. That’s proper imagination that is.

And in a world with no other source of hope, imagining things that aren’t there will do nicely.

Scintillatingly Rev and non-female Philip North, Bishop of Blackburn and not Bishop of Burnley or Sheffield

There’s been a big falling out between two people in the USA whose names I have forgotten. Which brings me to Jesus, the Last Supper, vines, flocks, relationships etc.

Never mind having a common ideology that is widely shared. Personal relationships and unquestioning loyalty to the fuehrer, sorry leader, is what is demanded.

And this is how governments and churches should be properly run.

Last Night’s Strawberry Moon

The moon is really low in the southern sky at the moment. And just as the sun looks red when it’s low in the sky so does the moon. That, combined with some very fine hazy cloud is making for some spectacular coloured moons, like last night.

It’s not quite a full moon, so you can still see some shadows in the top and left. The full moon is in a couple of days time, nicknamed the Strawberry Moon for the start of the strawberry season.
