Do you hate foreigners? Fortunately, the major political parties are now competing for your vote by trying to out-hate each other. The only ones preaching hope, not hate, is Christianity. Well, them and the Greens.

I think the sound editor on the Today Programme may have clipped out a few seconds at the start. Which might make it seem a bit nonsensical.

It is not unnatural or xenophobic to prefer the familiarity of one’s own culture to that of others. Yes, it is very virtuous to welcome strangers and offer them hospitality, even though Christians didn’t invent being nice to strangers. But the meeting of minds and cultures is a two-way process. And whatever the actuality, the perception is that many of those who want to come to the UK are not interested in assimilating, or in tempering their own culture to that in which they find themselves.

Another humanist thought with very little religious input that went on well over the usual 165 seconds allowed.
Maybe there was some injury time added for a VAR (Very Alternative Reality) challenge that I missed?

Whoops, the BBC have had to apologise and edit this one due to the speaker casually accusing Robert Jenrick of ‘xenophobia’.
