Didn’t get a chance to do any star gazing at all this week. I did do a nice picture of Bode’s Galaxies the week before though. I think this is one of the best ones I’ve done of Bode’s so far.

A really great image, Peter. They’re getting better and better!
O/T: I’m sure you’ve been reading about the discovery of an exoplanet whose atmosphere appears to contain dimethyl sulphide, which on Earth is produced only through biological activity. Jerry Coyne’s website yesterday featured a guest article by an expert in the field, explaining in near-layman’s language what’s going on. It is a remarkable achievement by the JWST to detect the planet in the first place, let alone analyse its atmosphere, but as the article makes clear, the detectable effects are pretty small, and the error bars pretty large. Worth a read.

Thanks Stephen. A very interesting post about the extrasolar planet. I’d seem some stuff about it but not in as much detail. Nice to see the uncertainties of cutting edge science being explained.
There was a similar discussion a few years back about the possibility of life in the upper atmosphere of Venus. I think the jury is still very much out on that one.
