Staggeringly Revd Nicholas Baines, Bishop of Leeds, West Yorkshire, the Dales and any other bits that can’t afford their own bishop any more

Hurrah, the people of Syria are free! What could possibly go wrong?

The Big Book of Magic Stuff tells us that empires come and go. Except China. The Big Book of Magic Stuff didn’t know about China and no one told the Invisible Magic Friend.

Which brings me to Jesus and Leonard Cohen’s song “Hallelujah”.

Jupiter and Bodes

Surprisingly, there were a couple of hours of clear skies this week. I managed to improve a little on my Jupiter skills.

The four bright dots are the Galilean moons. Actually these are just placeholders. The real moons are very feint at this exposure. In order from left to right, Calisto, Europa, Io and Ganymede. That little dot, Ganymede, is twice the size of our moon!

Also managed to grab a picture of Bode’s galaxies using the Carl Zeiss lens. Although the colour seems a bit washed out in this one.

Dr Krish Kandiah, Theologian and Author

The President of South Korea declared martial law. The image of a young woman defiantly grabbing a soldier’s rifle has become iconic.

This is EXACTLY like Advent. Oh yes, Advent, Jesus, candles, all that stuff. The parallels with an attempted coup in South Korea are uncanny.

This is the kind of intellectual rigour that only a theologian can provide.
