Yesterday I went to a synagogue. Yes, think about that. A Muslim going to a synagogue. I know, it’s unbelievable isn’t it? But it happened. Yes, it really did happen. I put one foot in front of the other and stepped into a building where the Invisible Magic Friend was worshiped in a slightly different way from the correct way. I sat through the service and thought about one of the nice bits of the Koran where a certain well known prophet was not in charge yet and he was the one being persecuted.

Yet there are people who mock interfaith work.

Climate change protesters were recently cleared by a jury of criminal damage. They wanted to prevent harm to others. This idea, of not harming others, was invented by all faiths, but mostly by Christianity.

Jesus himself said that criminal damage was justified in order to highlight human caused climate change. Or at least he would have done if only he’d thought of it.

Preposterously Reverend Lord Professor Bishop Baron Lord Richard Harries, Baron Pentregarth, Gresham Professor of Divinity, Baron, Bishop, Professor, Lord…

The Invisible Magic Friend gave the law to Moses. (This definitely happened.) Moses gave the law to the Jews. The Jews gave the laws to Christianity. These laws were then used to found Western Civilisation.

You’re welcome.

Separation of powers, accountability to the electorate and equality before the law were all invented by us Christians.

Again, you’re welcome.

And in the Big News today from a Faith Perspective, Julia Donaldson writes stories about monsters who do good deeds.

This is EXACTlY like the Big Book of Magic Stuff, except there aren’t any monsters and it’s not a work of fiction. Well there are a couple of monsters, and the story of the Good Samaritan is fictional. Although it’s not fictional that Jesus told it.

The Good Samaritan is a story about a “good” Samaritan. It’s surprising because Samaritans were always ugly, selfish, evil people. Every last one of them, apart from the good one. So it’s very surprising that someone from such a race of degenerate misfits would actually stop to help someone.
