You have to be quick to get pictures of the sky in the UK. Last night I had a peek out of the window at 3 am and noticed that the moon had briefly popped out from behind the clouds. So got dressed in a rush, got the telescope set up (it’s sitting in a garden box at the back of the garden, ready to go), went through a very rough and ready alignment procedure, popped the camera in the eyepiece holder, and started clicking.
I’ve got very little idea what I’m doing, so it’s a lot of trial and error. Mostly error. I just take dozens of snaps and hope that some of them come out OK. This approach would have been far less successful in the old days of film, but with digital cameras (in my case an ancient second hand one), it’s more practical.
Here’s one of the better snaps of the moon.

The cheap equipment used is listed in an older post, with the exception that the camera had a x2 magnifying lens for this shot. (The magnifying lens is called a “Barlow” for some reason in telescope talk.)
