Rev Lucy Winkett, Rector of St James Piccadilly, handy for Fortnum and Mason

The nights are now getting shorter, a new year will soon begin. It might have been a terrible year, a perma-crisis, but many have to live like this all the time. I won’t give you the glib hope of an imaginary religious future, like scientists do. Instead, I’ll give you Christmas, where Jesus, who was definitely one third of the Invisible Magic Friend was definitely born.

There’s STILL nothing in the news.

Scintillatingly Rev and non-female Philip North, Bishop of Burnley and not Bishop of Sheffield

And in the Big News today from a Faith Perspective, there’s four days to go to Christmas. Be patient. We can be impatient for justice. This is exactly like Advent, waiting for Jesus.

There is still no other news. In fact, there’s been no news this week.

And in the Big News today from a Faith Perspective, it’s nearly Christmas. There will be family troubles and these are caused by our genes, which were given to us by our ancestors who got them from Adam and Eve, who got them from our Invisible Magic Friend. (Quick bit of science for all you geeks out there.) So all your defects are really your ancestors’ fault, although not the Invisible Magic Friend’s fault in any way at all.

Jesus had ancestors too. There’s a couple of different versions to choose from in the gospels, with generation after generation of begatting, ending with Joseph, who wasn’t the father of Christ. Jesus turned out OK, although maybe that was because he didn’t have any ancestors on his father’s side.

And that is the totally un-proselyting Big News today from a Faith Perspective.

Catherine Pepinster, professional Catholic

The World Cup is over. Which brings me to Christmas, which will also be over at some point.

Oh, Christmas. I wasn’t going to mention Christmas, the baby Jesus, the manger, the shepherds, three wise men, or just how generally super this completely Christian mid-winter festival is, and how it’s not really totally over until we say it is. But now that the subject has come up so naturally I’ll spend the rest of the three minutes talking about Christmas.
