Rev Dr Stephen Cherry, Dean King’s College Cambridge

And in the Big News today from a Faith Perspective, I’ve been to France, in July, looking for the grave of a friend of a predecessor, who invented the Christmas service from King’s, which will be on the radio this afternoon.

It’s a really good service and we all wear our very best dresses. Of course you won’t be able to see this on the radio, but trust me they’re all very clean. We will celebrate the birth of the Prince of Peace and the end of World War I.

There’ll be some tears, which unlike secular tears are genuine tears, even though we don’t believe that anyone is really dead (that’s a quick bit of Christian theology for you). It’s a “deep spiritual connection with life’s most difficult realities.”

Welcome to the new home of POTD

I hope no one was too shocked by the sudden closure of the previous Platitude of the Day web site. The software was just becoming more and more difficult to keep running.

The new site is a free site hosted by WordPress, a very popular and highly regarded blogging platform. This is very different from the old platform. There are bound to be a few difficulties as we get started, so please be patient, we’re going to be learning how to use this together. On the plus side it should be possible to get help online just by googling how to do things in WordPress.

As this site is being provided for free, there will inevitably be some adverts, sorry about that. I also imagine the owners are probably quite keen to keep everything as non-controversial as possible, but as I very rarely have to moderate discussions on POTD, I don’t see this as being a particular concern.

Please let me know about any problems you are having or any suggestions for improvements. Long may our little community continue.
